Lighting Design 101: Layered Light for Every Room
Walk into a beautifully designed room and something intangible makes it feel right. More often than not, that something is the lighting. Good lighting design is invisible; bad lighting is the first thing you notice.
Every room benefits from three layers of light. Ambient lighting is your base — the overall glow that lets you navigate the space. Task lighting is focused and functional: a reading lamp, under-cabinet LEDs, a vanity sconce. Accent lighting adds drama and depth, drawing the eye to art, architecture, or a textured wall.
The key is control. Dimmers on every circuit let you shift from bright and functional to soft and intimate with the slide of a finger. And never underestimate the power of warm light — 2700K to 3000K mimics the golden quality of natural daylight and flatters every skin tone.
When all three layers work together, a room stops being a collection of furniture and becomes an experience. That's the magic of lighting done right.
